The Old Sozopol is listed as a town-museum with the name Architectural and Archaeological Reserve Ancient Sozopol with a government decree No 320 issued on September 7, 1974. It includes more than 180 typical Sozopol houses dating back to the Bulgarian National Revival times - from the middle of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century. Most of them are listed as monuments of culture. In most cases these houses are typical representatives of the Black Sea type of a revival house. The ground floor of such a type is built of stone with trimmer joists and is used for workshops, storage and other similar purposes. The first floor is made of wood and is where the family lives and accepts guests. At the same time the Sozopol revival houses share some common traits with the Strandja type of revival houses and some types traditional for the area of Stara Planina. Some of the most famous houses in Architectural and Archaeological Reserve Old Sozopol are the house of Marieta Stefanova built on the medieval fortress wall; the house of Dimitar Laskaridis (fish trader) dating back to the 17th century, which now functions as an art gallery; the house of Kreanoolu with an interesting facade located in the north end of the Old Sozopol; the house of Kurtidi (the Ethnographic museum of Sozopol) also known as the Thracian inn, which is located on the seashore and is famous for its remarkable fretwork in one of its rooms; the house of Ana Trendafilova also known as the house with the sun; the house of grandma Kukulisa Hadjinikolova where was located the editorial of the famous newspaper Starshel; the house of Una Psarianova, which is now a restaurant; the House of Metropoliev now functioning as a medical center; the house of Todor Zagorov, etc.
